Lia’s LAX Update

Happy Monday Philo-ers! This week we are in for a treat, we’ve got a lot of local events that are definitely worth your time to check out. Today for instance is the start of Social Justice Week on UW-L’s campus, you can find the schedule to all of their programs and events linked above they have a lot of awesome presentations, research,  and workshops all week long! This weekend there are two amazing fundraisers also happening on campus, on Saturday the 9th the REC will be hosting St. Baldrick’s , which is a campaign that fundraises for childhood cancer research by shaving volunteers hair and an Out of the Darkness walk  on Sunday the 10th hosted by Active Minds a campus organization. I am participating in St.Baldrick’s be sure to stop by and say hi, if you can’t make it no worries Philo will be there to record it all! The La Crosse Mayor Neighborhood Conference is also taking place on April 9th from 8:30 to 3pm, this year focusing “on promoting and celebrating the growing, sourcing, and cooking of local, sustainable, and healthy food.” The conference is an awesome way to bring up issues that are important to you and to collaborate as a community.Lastly, there will be a seminar today at 5:30pm in 1400 Centennial on UW-L’s campus about the Rise of Islamophobia in the U.S. Where they will be discussing the manifestations and impact of Islamophobia in the U.S. and the threats it presents to American ideals and the U.S. Constitution. Additionally it will bring to light pragmatic solutions to the problem. A very important topic within our current state as a nation following the presidential campaigns. If you can try to check out as many as you can, we’ve got so many resources for obtaining knowledge and making ourselves heard. Enjoy the week all!
